This evening, meet your Tour Leader and fellow travellers over a welcome dinner and introduction to your journey through one of Italy’s most captivating regions. Take a moment to step outside and breathe in the scent of sea air mingled with citrus from the city’s gardens. Palermo by night is alive with the hum of conversation, glowing lanterns, and the aroma of freshly baked arancini wafting through the streets. After breakfast, set out for Monreale, a hilltop town just outside Palermo renowned for its breathtaking Norman Cathedral. Step inside to marvel at its golden mosaics a shimmering masterpiece depicting biblical scenes that glow beneath the Sicilian light. Continue to Palermo, where a guided walking tour reveals the city’s rich fusion of cultures. Stroll through the historic centre, past ornate Baroque churches, Arab domes, and lively markets filled with the colour and chaos of Sicilian life. Visit the Palermo Cathedral, the Quattro Canti, and the Piazza Pretoria, nicknamed “The Square of Shame” for its flamboyant Renaissance sculptures. The afternoon is yours to wander cobblestone alleys, perhaps pausing for a cannolo or espresso in a local café. Dinner and overnight in Palermo. (B, D)
Today, journey west to Erice, a medieval village perched atop Mount San Giuliano. Its narrow stone lanes, flower-filled courtyards, and sweet scent of almond pastries evoke timeless charm. Sample local treats and admire sweeping views over the Tyrrhenian coast before continuing to Marsala. Here, you’ll enjoy a light lunch and wine tasting at a traditional winery, savouring the region’s renowned fortified wine accompanied by artisanal cheeses and olive oils. The landscape then shifts as you drive south toward Agrigento, home to the legendary Valley of the Temples, one of the greatest archaeological treasures of the ancient world.
